Martín Zavala was born and raised in Mexico City. In 2023 he successfully completed a master’s degree in Creative Photography at Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC). Prior to that, he graduated with honors from Centro University (Mexico City) with a Film and Television degree (2019).

 

In 2020 he was the director of photography and editor of “Tragaluz”, a short film that received honorable mention at the Shorts Mexico Film Festival. “Estudio Onírico”, his photographic series that explores the theme and aesthetic of Surrealism, was published by the magazine Revista 192. 

 

He took part in the group exhibition “Yo en 2020, 2020 en mí”, organized by Centro de la Imagen and 17, Instituto de Estudios Críticos (Mexico City, 2022). That year he also collaborated with the band Pompa Teté for their music videos “De Pe a Pa” and “Lo” as the cinematographer.

 

“A tu lado” is his first artist photobook, which uses found and his own photographs to narrate the story of a relationship through the pass of time. Through the book he also experiments with different materials and techniques (2023). Nowadays he lives in Munich, where he continues to develop projects about memory and everyday life, as he continues to explore the possibilities of analog photography.
